This film was made by Samir Chowdhury (Salil's younger brother) and was produced by Padma Trivedi. Sanjay Kumar and Anjana were the main stars. According to Samir Chowdhury Sanjeev Kumar's acting was excellent. Lata and Mukesh were so impressed with this film that they wanted the film distribution rights for Maharastra and Rajasthan. Sadly the film and the soundtrack was completely destroyed before its release in a major fire which gutted the studio. According to Yogesh (Feb 2006) at least three songs of this film were recorded. One song was written by Prem Dhawan and Yogesh wrote the lyrics of another song. Prem Dhawan's song was recorded by Suman Kalyanpur, Md. Rafi with Chorus. Sadly no one could tell us anything more about this song. Not even the first line of the song.Yogesh says that he wrote his first song for Salilda and could recall the first four lines of this song "koi pia se kahe ab jaao naa " and talked enthusiastically about the complex arrangement and the beautiful melody of this song which was based on Lata's bengali song "jodi baaron koro tobe jaabo naa". I could only find the first song listed here which is a wonderful adaptation of Mukesh's bengali song "mon maataal saanjh sokaal". Another Hindi adaptation of this song (lyrics by Yogesh) was sung by Yesudas in a never-made Bengali film called 'Aswamedher Ghodaa'. Sadly I still haven't been able to get this song.
Anyway, it seems that "Mitti ka Dev" will always remain an unique film with three songs written by three lyricists and four famous singers recording these songs !
